Although I had practiced yoga sporadically for about 10 years, I mark the true beginning of my yoga journey the day that I walked into Mind Body Flow Yoga in November 2013.
My family had recently relocated to Buffalo, and I had noticed and been intrigued by the studio for a couple of months, but hadn’t yet walked through the door.
During that time, our lives had taken some unexpected turns.
The dream job that had brought us to Buffalo was terminated and we found ourselves in a new area, away from family, and with no real desire to foster a sense of community in what we viewed as a temporary home.
Amidst this uncertainty, I instinctively knew that I needed to unearth my mat from the basement and get myself to class.
Meeting Marina and being introduced to Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga quite literally paved the way for a life transformation. In Mind Body Flow Yoga I found a remarkable group of teachers and students who met me with empathy, encouragement and inspiration.
In Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga I discovered a strength and clarity that has allowed me to step more fully into myself.
I have been challenged physically and I am physically stronger than at perhaps any other time in my life. Yet each and every time I step onto my mat I am reminded that the true transformation has been in my mental and spiritual state.
It quickly become clear that sharing my love for Baptiste Yoga and becoming more fully immersed in the MBFY community was something I needed to act on. In May 2014 completed Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Institute’s Art of Assisting training. In June 2014 I spent a week in Sedona, AZ at Baptiste’s Level I training.
These experiences solidified not only my love of Baptiste methodology, they also reaffirmed my desire to share my practice and assist and serve others.
I aspire to teach the kind of class that I love to take – challenging, fun, fluid and balanced, with room to explore and get a little messy.
The challenge and inspiration for each practice is to show up, step out of the box, and trust that the work will lead us where we need to be. I hope you will join me.
What a Student Said About Shannon
Shannon greets you at the door with a great smile and a positive attitude. She has really good presence and effortlessly works and feels her way around the room connecting with the class. Her voice is calming and re-assuring. She leads by example, demonstrating with great physical skill and takes time to emphasize the subtleties of various poses. I always look forward to Tuesday night class and the influence it has on the balance of my week.
