Mind Body Flow Yoga Picture DayFAQs

I’ve never done yoga and am not flexible. Is that a problem?

The great thing about yoga is that you are free to develop your own individual practice. Every pose taught in class can be modified to fit your own physical ability. For example, if a pose calls for touching your toes and you can’t, then you can touch your shins or your knees instead – the most important thing is that you are challenging your own personal edge, wherever that edge is.

What do I need to take a yoga class?

You will need a yoga mat. You may also want to bring a towel and a bottle of water.

What should I wear to class?

Wear clothing that you can move comfortably in, like shorts, leggings, t-shirts, tank tops, etc. Keep in mind that the studio is heated to 80 – 85 degrees. Be prepared to sweat. Yoga is practiced barefoot. Socks can be left with your personal belongings in the studio.

How hot does your studio get?

We heat our studio between 80 and 85 degrees. This is hot enough to get the sweat flowing and the muscles loose, but not so hot that the heat becomes distracting and overwhelming.

Is it true that you can’t eat before taking a yoga class?

Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. However, this does not mean that you need to fast or starve yourself. You can eat something light (such as fruit) an hour or two before taking class. If you eat a heavy meal before class, you may end up carrying additional bulk in your abdomen, which may make practicing yoga uncomfortable. Also, since your body uses energy for digestion, you may feel sluggish as energy is diverted towards digestion.

Can happens if I am late to class? Can I still get in?

Our practice is valued sacred time that we carve out, to come away from the everyday stresses of life and clear space from disruptions and distractions.
In an effort to respect the importance of this coveted time for our community and to have an uninterrupted energy flow, late comers will not be admitted to class.
The front door will be locked upon the start of class and will remain locked until the completion of class.
Please arrive on time for class. If you arrive and find the door locked, please do not knock on the door, as late admissions will no longer be allowed.
Additionally, brand-new/first time students to the studio, should arrive 10-15 minutes early for their first class, in order to complete necessary paperwork and get situated for class.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making the practice a time of uninterrupted focus and energy flow for our community.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve worked out. Can I do yoga?

You should consult with a physician before undertaking a new workout regimen if you have any concerns. If you are new to yoga, start out with our Foundation Flow class. If at any time during the practice you need to take a break, simply come out of the pose, take a resting posture to regroup (such as child pose), catch your breath, and come back into the flow of the class when you feel ready. As your stamina improves, you will become more comfortable with your ability to do the postures. You’ll be amazed at the transformations that will occur, if you stick to it and challenge your physical and mental capabilities.

I don’t have a yoga mat. Is that a problem?

You can rent a yoga mat from our studio for a $1. We also provide complimentary hand towels that you can borrow for class, to lay at the front or back of your mat, to help absorb sweat and provide additional traction for your hands and feet.

Are all of your adult yoga classes heated?

Yes. Heat is ideal for shaping and stretching muscles. Body movements are much more fluid in a heated environment. The heat also makes you sweat. Through sweating, your body releases toxins and excess fluids, lessening the burden on your kidneys and liver.

I’m a guy. Is yoga for me?

Yes. Because of the physical nature of Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga, many guys love to practice this style of yoga. Our Foundations Flow class is a great place to start for guys who have never done yoga. Should I not eat before coming to a yoga class?

How early should I get to class?

Brand-new/first time students to the studio, should arrive 10-15 minutes early for their first class, in order to complete necessary paperwork and get situated for class.

Do I need to pre-register for class?

Not at all. You can drop into any class without registering beforehand. We just ask that if you are new/first-time student that you arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first class, in order to complete necessary paperwork and get situated for class.
